Senior to Senior Scholarship
Senior to Senior is a program that we launched this year to match Senior Citizens at Homewood Residences, a nearby assisted living facility with Seniors at Naples High School. College Bound seniors were given an opportunity to not only earn a scholarship but also to earn community service hours by conducting a series of interviews of the senior citizen and writing a biography.
Four Seniors from Naples High participated in the program: Amelia Krauss, Saxon Eastman, Hannah Cardenas and Hannah Lewis. All four of the essays were phenomenal! But the real beauty of the program was the enrichment of the lives that occurred ….both for the High School Seniors , and for the Senior Citizens.
Each of the Essays were bound into a book. The cover of the book was designed by Kate Burzynski, who (in addition to being part of the Burzynski family) is a Naples High Junior taking Computer Graphics.
Homewood Residences hosted a lovely reception for the Senior to Senior participants and their families where the students received their scholarship awards.
On April 28th the Collier County Commission proclaimed May to be “Dan and Jill Burzynski Month” in honor of their contribution to the community for the Senior to Senior Scholarship Program.
Marianna Sroka, our probate paralegal is currently working with Naples High to insure the success of Senior to Senior in the 2009-2010 academic year.
We at Burzynski Elder Law are thrilled to assist the community in enriching the lives of the Seniors in the community.
